I’m a little late to the party on this one. I heard about it when it was first announced I sought out every bit of information I could get about it, but at the time I didn’t have a blog to write about it, so I just bored my friends with my excitement instead.
There are plenty of video samples and reviews out there already (and the camera hasn’t even hit the market yet) so I won’t go into all the technical details here.
What I do love about it is its simplicity, its versatility and its price. It tips the applecart of the ENG video camera and DSLR markets. It keeps the emphasis on the sensor, codecs, storage and IO, which is all within the usual turf of Blackmagic Design. What it leaves well alone are are the lenses, rails, viewfinder attachments, and all the stuff that the indie market has already nailed. They’ve taken the one bit that people have been waiting for DSLRs to get right, and done it for less than any of the other players.
It’s out of scope for me at the moment, but its nice to know what the next tier up might look like.Share
